The parts
Every page has the same job
Somebody found you on their phone and has about ten seconds to decide whether to stay. Whether the page belongs to a shop, a club or a person, it exists to answer the four questions they're actually asking.
Is this the right place?
Your name, what you do, and where, big enough to read at arm's length. No slideshow, no stock photos of somebody else.
Can I trust it?
Real proof. Your Google rating for a business, your actual work for a portfolio, real photos for a club. Not testimonials I wrote for you.
What's happening, and when?
Your hours, your next event, your schedule. This is the detail people check most and the one most small sites get wrong or leave stale.
How do I get in touch, or join?
A phone number that dials when tapped, a sign-up or RSVP, a map if there's somewhere to go, and a form that lands in your inbox.
About this website
Yours does not have to look like mine
This site is deliberately more worked-up than most of the pages I build. The motion, the layout, the type: that is me showing you what I can do, not a house style you are about to be handed.
Your page gets built the way you want it. If you want it plain, it will be plain, and I will not talk you into anything. If you want it to move, it can move. Most people want something calm that loads fast and does its job, and that is a completely correct answer.
The most useful thing you can do is send me two or three websites you like, from any industry at all. It does not matter if they are nothing like yours. I will work out what it is you actually like about them and build toward that, and it saves us both a week of guessing.
Photography
Your photos beat stock, always
I won't put a stock photo of somebody else's shop, team or wedding on your page. People can tell, and it undercuts the one thing the page is claiming. Three phone photos of the real thing are worth more than anything I could buy, and taking them costs you ten minutes.
